Venus Fly Traps are known for being challenging to care for; requiring very specific care and environments to thrive They are fun and unique addition to your collection and will do well with proper care

They require bright, indirect sunlight for 12 hours daily with 4 hours being direct sunlight They will do through a dormant season annually where they require even less light

Wet, acidic, nutrient weak soil from a 1:1 mixture of peat moss and perlite is essential as Flytraps require very little nutrients from the soil They are extremely sensitive to mineral build up

Plastic or fiberglass pots that allow a 2″ radius around the rhizome work well Repotting is a frequent need for these plants due to their sensitive soil requirements

Mineral free water such as distilled is required, and during the growing season it is important to keep the soil moist at all times using a bottom watering method Less watering is needed during dormancy

The Venus Flytraps thrives in temps between 70-95 degrees F with moderate humidity levels above 50% Moving the plant to a cooler area of your home during dormancy is important, to allow it the rest it requires

They receive their bulk nutrients from the insects they consume during the growing season and don’t require any additional fertilizer Once established, it may be necessary for you to feed your flytrap insects during the growing season

Repotting every 6-12 months is required since they need fresh, low chemical soil This should be done in early spring when it is coming out of dormancy Propagating should also be done at this time

Propagation is done by division of young offshoots in early spring Cutting them off with roots attached and planting them in fresh soil Constant indirect light is needed, but protect from direct light until is has matured
